About Nepal

  • Nepal is a landlocked country located in southern Asia between India and China. It is a country  diverse in landscape ranging from tropical and rainy marshlands in the south and three quarters of the rest of the country is covered by mountains and home of the world’s highest peak, Mount Everest.
  • It is 56,827 square miles with a  population of approximately 27 million, and  is the world's 93rd largestcountry by area and the 41st most populous country.
  • Today, it is one of the poorest  and least developed countries in the world, with more than 25% of its residents living at or below the poverty line.
  • About 80 per cent of Nepal's people live in rural areas and depend on subsistence farming for their livelihoods.
  • Many people in Nepal are extremely vulnerable to various forms of exploitation. This modern slavery plays out in Sex Trafficking, each year 10,000+ women and girls are trafficked from Nepal into the international sex trade, to be prostituted in brothels, primarily in India but increasingly around the world.

What We're Doing

Trades of Hope is honored to partner with these groups in Nepal to help sell their handmade products for a fair wage. These Artisans are now provided with education, clothing and household allowances, low-interest loans, seminars on health, nutrition and women's rights by participating in this group. Through creating these products these women are changing their attitudes which is  teaching them they have value and worth. By partnering with this group Trades of Hope believes that by empowering these women generational changes are taking place among the lives of the Artisans and their communities in Nepal!
